William Alvin Alexander Hilson Obituary

Burlington, Ontario - With his children by his side, William Alvin Alexander Hilson passed away at the age of 87, leaving behind a legacy of love and a life well lived.

Bill was the ultimate gentleman—kind, generous, and deeply devoted to the people he loved. For 38 years he served the Burlington community as a dentist, caring for his patients with compassion, skill, and genuine warmth. Many knew him not only as their dentist but as a trusted friend whose gentle manner put everyone at ease. His commitment to his patients and community continues today, as the dental practice he built is proudly carried on by his son William and daughter Leah.

Above all else, Bill was a devoted husband and father. His great love story began when he met Gayle at the age of 18. Their lifelong devotion to one another was the foundation of their family and remained steadfast until her passing three years ago.

Bill was a remarkable father who gave his children every opportunity and filled their lives with love, encouragement, and laughter. He is lovingly remembered by his children William (Patricia), Arthur (Aimee), and Leah (Walter), who will forever be grateful for the incredible father he was.

He was also a proud and adoring grandfather to Victoria, Catherine, William, James, Seamus, Ciaran, Ronan, Ava, and Ryan, who brought him endless joy and laughter. He is survived by his brother Robert and was predeceased by his sister Geraldine Benedetti.

Bill found happiness in the simple and meaningful things in life: time spent with family, preparing wonderful family dinners, caring for his beloved animals, and working with his hands on countless household construction projects. He treasured summers in Muskoka at the family cottage and winters at the Florida condo, places where many cherished memories were made. He and Gayle also shared a love of travel, spending many wonderful vacations cruising around the world together.

Those who knew Bill will remember his kindness, quiet generosity, steady presence, and impeccable manners—the qualities of a true gentleman.

His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and in the countless lives he touched through his work, friendship, and compassion. Bill will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A joint celebration of life will be held for Bill and his beloved wife Gayle, who passed during the COVID pandemic, on April 4th, from 1-4 p.m. at the Art Gallery of Burlington, 1333 Lakeshore Rd. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate two lives beautifully intertwined and well lived. All who knew him are welcome to attend.
