Terry Lance Stevenson

Some people spend their lives trying to fit in. Terry spent his making sure everyone knew exactly what he was thinking.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Terry Stevenson, a man who lived life on his own terms, and will be remembered by many with love, gratitude and respect.

Terry is survived by his three children Melissa (Super-Dave), Dexter, and Lindsay (Myles). He was predeceased by his parents Jean Morden (nee) Bertasson, Frank Stevenson, step-father Bob Morden, sister Sharon (Bill) and sister-in-law Letty. Surviving Terry are his siblings Derrick, Debbie, Paul (Mirella), and Wesley (Ali), and nieces and nephews: Jillian, Sydney, Jeremy, Amanda, Candice, Jesse, Matthew and Mark.

Terry wasn’t interested in pretending, sugar-coating things, or telling people what they wanted to hear. He called things exactly as he saw them. His honesty could catch you off guard, make you laugh, make you shake your head, and occasionally make you rethink your life choices. He was deeply funny, adventurous, and intelligent.

Terry worked harder than almost anyone probably harder than he should have. Work wasn’t just what he did, it was a huge part of who he was. If there was a job to do, he’d be there, except in the rain.

As much as he loved building things on land, he truly found peace on and near the water. Sailing, and scuba diving gave him something few things could: a quiet mind and a restored spirit.

Terry had many friendships that spanned decades. He wasn’t big on telling people how he felt, but he had his own ways of showing it: fixing something, checking in, giving advice whether you wanted it or not, making sure you got home safely, or simply busting your balls.

He was not perfect. He could be crusty, stubborn, and completely unapologetic, but at his core he had a genuinely kind heart. He made life a little louder, a little more interesting and a whole lot harder to forget.

If he were still here, he would likely tell us we are making too big a deal of this and remind us to “keep your stick on the ice.”

A celebration of life in honour of Terry will be held on Sunday, September 27th, from 1-3 pm at the Port Credit Legion (35 Front Street N, Mississauga). We look forward to gathering together to share a laugh, shed a tear, and remember all that Terry brought to our lives.
