Mike spent the first 27 years of his life in Sault Ste Marie, being loved by his parents, Mary Lou and Murray MacLean, and brothers Todd (Sharon) MacLean and Trevor MacLean, all of Sault Ste Marie, spending summers at his favourite place in the world: their camp on Irwin Island, Lake Superior. The next 30 years of his life were spent with his wife Tracey (McMillan) in Mississauga, where they rebuilt/built their one and only home, plus had what Mike would say his biggest and proudest accomplishments: his children, Reese and Quinn.
He leaves behind a close family who he loved and who loved him dearly. In addition to the above, Mike was the cherished son-in-law to Pat and Ross McMillan; brother-in-law to Scott (Susan) and Tyler (Missy), and uncle to Ty II.
Despite his GIST diagnosis in 2005/2015 and FTD in 2023, he lived his life to the fullest every day, enjoying family and friends, coaching his kids, travelling, building a golf green in his backyard, learning the guitar, painting beautiful pictures, and playing a lot of golf, squash, and pickleball! He made so many wonderful friends along the way, whether it be at work (Mark Faiz/Annuity Research; EDS; NHSS/Cap Gemini/OPG), neighbours, or through sports, especially everyone at the Ontario Racquet Club.
Thanks for the care over the years from Dr. Razak and team at Mt Sinai/Princess Margaret and Dr Tang-Wei at St Mike’s. It was only the past month that he received the exceptional palliative home hospice care from Dr Harild - Trillium Health Partners and team through Spectrum Partners and Hospice Mississauga, allowing him to enjoy his final days at home surrounded by his family.
In lieu of flowers, donations, if desired, can be directed to Princess Margaret Foundation or Hospice Mississauga.
A celebration of life will be arranged at a later date this May.
“It was great seeing you guys.”
