Obituary

Marion Childs

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marion Louise Childs on March 12, 2026 in the loving embrace of her daughter at her home in Bowmanville, Ontario. Marion made the best of her 93 years.

Marion was born on January 30, 1933 to Nicholas and Julia (Malanczuk) Malanuck. She was born in Cochrane ON.

Marion grew up in Abitibi, Ontario where her father was a section foreman for the railway. She enjoyed the train station and watching people come and go. Marion is one of ten siblings. Her brothers and sisters are Mike (Juanita) Malanuck, Alex (Kathy) Malanuck, Eva (Norval) Hodgson, Annie (John) Clark, Stella (Nelson) Skidmore, Barry (Dolores) Malanuck now MacIssac, Goldie Malanuck, Roy Malanuck and Donna (Larry) Lambert. Donna is her only living sibling.

Marion met and married Jack Childs and had one girl, Kim Leslie. Marion and Jack were in business in the town of Bowmanville - Jack Childs Ladies Wear. They would often go to Toronto to meet clothing suppliers and enjoy cocktails at The Silver Rail. Jack died in 1974 leaving Marion heartbroken. She never remarried and changed the name of the store to Childs Ladies Wear. There Marion worked every day for 46 years until she retired in 2007 at 75 years young. Then enjoyed years of traveling with her family.

Those who knew Marion will remember her for her stories, kindness, strength, exercising skills and taking long walks around town, sometimes with dogs. Marion loved animals.

Marion will be greatly missed by her daughter Kim, son-in-law Chris Muscat, grandchildren Melissa Lycett (Dwayne), Skye Felstead, Matthew Felstead (Lindsay) and Stephen Felstead, great grandchildren Kamran and Aliya Lycett, Storm Burden and her many nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to thank Betty-Jean MacDonald (Oshawa) for her unwavering love and support to Marion’s family.
