In the early hours of All Saints' Day, November 1, 2026, Joyce Howe Dermont passed from this world. Having celebrated her 90th birthday in May, she spent her final days sharing memories and love with family.
Mother to Celia Quinn [Kevin] and David Dermont [Priska]. Joyce often spoke of the great love she had for her children.
Proud grandmother to Noah Rosenberg and Sean Woodward. Loving great-grandmother to Lila Mae, Maya Jane and Ezra Gray.
Joyce is survived by her sisters, Roberta Bartlett and June Anderson, and her younger brother, Jim Howe. Joyce was dearly loved by three generations of nieces and nephews.
A graduate of McMaster University led to four decades of teaching high school English. A published poet and novelist, Joyce was a superb storyteller. Her sharp sense of humour and quick wit shone around dinner tables, where family and friends shared in her laughter and love.
As promised by Aunt Mae, Joyce is surely now ‘awash in god’s love’.
In accordance with Joyce’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Celebrations of Life will be private, but family urges all who knew Joyce to raise a glass of bubbly and indulge in some good chocolate.
