John Albert Myers
June 14, 1938 - April 2, 2026
Through a peaceful sleep on April 2, 2026, John Albert Myers, in his 88th year, passed over to the spirit world. His family is profoundly thankful for his long and beautiful life and wishes to share the love, memories, and joy he brought to them.
Born in Oakville in 1938 to parents Helen Lorrain Myers (Mills) and Albert Henry Myers, he grew up on Head Street with his parents and siblings. He met his future wife, Rose, at a dance in town. In 1956, as a young adult, John joined the navy and found his love of experiencing the world. Rose followed John to Halifax during his navy time and they married in 1959. They eventually returned to Ontario and raised their family in Milton on a farm on the 4th line. A proud transport truck driver for over 50 years, he loved music–especially old-time country music–and he truly embodied the lyrics “I’ve been everywhere,” travelling routes that stretched from the east coast to the west coast, as far north as Alaska and as far south as Costa Rica. After many decades on the road, he retired in 2010 and eventually returned to live in Milton.
John was the eldest of five children. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Nancy Storey (the late Hugh), Bill Myers (the late Sandy), Shirley Rabjohn (Gary), and Ken Myers. His love will live on in the hearts of his six children: Lorrie (Danny), John (Annette), Gail (Roger), Ronda (Mark), Lisa (Laura) and Mary (Patrick). They shared a lifetime of love with him, including many months during which he courageously faced the challenges of cancer. He was predeceased by his beloved former spouse and mother of their children, Harriette Rose Myers (Essaunce).
He will be deeply missed by his ten grandchildren who enjoyed his kindness and adventurous spirit: Shannon and Heather; Lucas and Michelle; Adam and Tess; Daniel and Elaine; Hector and Iris. His long life and legacy include thirteen great-grandchildren: Kira, Emily, Shaun, Amilya, Fiona; Jacob, Stella; Sonia, Aisha, Inaya, Ty, Leo, and Vance, who lovingly called him “G.G.,” short for Great Grandpa. He will also be remembered and missed by his nieces and nephews, and many, many chosen and extended family members whom he loved very much.
John/Dad/Grampa/G.G. carried with him a love of life that was humble and generous. Through the steady rhythm of his days, he showed his family how to be thankful for this good life/mino-bimaadiziwin; to celebrate the quirks and eccentricities that make each of us whole and even the challenges that shape us and make us stronger. In this way, we learned through our lives to truly love and care for each other without measure. Indeed, he taught us to love without measure. Among the many gifts he has left for his loved ones, these are just a few and for all that we have learned from him, we are truly thankful.
The family acknowledges and is thankful for the sensitive and thoughtful end-of-life care and support provided at the Ian Anderson House hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 25th starting at 2pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 114 in Oakville located at 36 Upper Middle Road East at the 6th line. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Ian Anderson House in honour of our father: Donate Now - IAN ANDERSON HOUSE FOUNDATION.
