It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hervey Bret Filion, who was born in Oshawa, Ontario, on January 13, 1961, and passed away in February 2026.

Bret is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Donna Filion (Thursby). Together, they shared a deeply committed partnership spanning 43 years, 32 of those years in marriage, built on loyalty, friendship, and enduring love.

He was a proud and caring father to his five children: Aaron (Jodie), Shanon, Trevor (Cindy), Candice (Kejean), and Connor (Brooke). Bret was also a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren: Javon, Jahneisa, Jahnya, Troy, and Sophie, who brought him great joy.

Bret is survived by his parents, Fern and Faye (Painter) Filion, as well as his devoted siblings: David Wade (Diane Park) Filion, Debra Lynn (Dwaine) Watt, Tracy Lee (Frank) Lew, and Cindy Lou (Bernie) Ardis. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He spent many years as a dedicated employee with the Durham District School Board, where he formed lasting friendships and was respected by colleagues.

Bret will be remembered for his love of family, his steady presence, and the many connections he made throughout his life.

A Celebration of Life will be held in April. Dates and location will be announced at a later time.
