Remembering Gladys

Gladys was a woman of extraordinary spirit, warmth and humour, with an infectious laugh, a quick wit and a remarkable ability to find joy in everyday life.

A proud Belfast woman, she was always impeccably dressed, with an effortless sense of style that drew admiration right up until the end. She loved shopping and could spot a bargain at fifty paces, once famously purchasing a wee whatzit whose purpose remained a mystery, but whose bargain price was beyond question.

A devoted wife and mother, a wonderful cook, and a formidable hunter of dust bunnies and other diabolical wee bits that dared to invade her immaculate home, Gladys brought her own unmistakable flair to everything she did.

A talented singer, she once turned down a recording contract with Decca Records, choosing instead to stay in Belfast to help care for her family.

Gladys had a gift for making people laugh, often without even trying. Her humour was quick, delightfully cheeky and unmistakably her own. As she once remarked, with characteristic wit, “I’m dying to get a word in edgeways!”

Gladys is survived by Frank Mousley, her husband of 66 years; her son David Mousley and daughter-in-law Angelique; grandchildren Patrick, Séamus, Aaron and Amelie; great-grandson Wren; her brother Tommy Latimer and sister Evelyn Latimer; and dear Jane Don, Dave Don, Aidan, Laina and family.

She also leaves behind some unforgettable words of wisdom: “I had one of them and the wheels fell off,” “Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded,” and, of course, “Will you look at the state of her and the price of fish!”

A life filled with love, laughter and more than a little mischief.

A very special note of gratitude to Gladys's dear friend and companion Hannah, and the wonderful staff of Memory & Company Oakville and Post Inn Village who went above and beyond to support Gladys and our family this year.
