It is with both sadness and gratitude that we announce the passing of Gladys Ann Farrell on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, on May 7, 1948, Gladys lived life on her own terms. She built a successful career in the jewellery industry, developed a lifelong love of travel, treasured time spent with family and friends, and never turned down a good conversation, a good laugh, or the occasional rum and Coke. She was also an unapologetic Elvis Presley fan. Those who knew her well understand that if there is music in heaven, Gladys undoubtedly headed straight for the King.

Later in life, Gladys moved to Georgetown to be closer to her family, a decision that brought her great joy. Family was at the centre of her life, and nowhere was this more evident than in her remarkable connection with children. For reasons that remain something of a mystery, children were naturally drawn to her. Perhaps it was her playful spirit, her willingness to be silly, or her endless supply of jokes and sarcasm. Whatever the reason, three generations of children were lucky enough to experience her special brand of fun, adventure, and unconditional love.

Gladys was predeceased by her parents, Charles John Farrell and Mary Ellen Farrell; her beloved sister Catherine Tassone; and brother-in-law Giuseppi Tassone.

She leaves behind her loving sister Valerie Farrell and brother Patrick Farrell (Sharon). She also maintained close and cherished relationships with former sisters-in-law Jackie Serna and the late Darlene Newton. She was so grateful for the supportive friendship of Marg Patrick who was always there to make sure she had everything she needed.

Gladys will be lovingly remembered by cousins Barry (Trese), Bev (Keith), Bob (Carol) and the entire crew of Brindle cousins (way too many to mention); her nieces and nephews Maria Saunders, John Tassone, Rosa Tassone, Lucia Maragliano, Ross Tassone, and Chrystal Levay; and honorary nephew and niece John and Dee Dee Peace.

She will also be dearly missed by her great-nieces and great-nephews Zach, Hannah, Tanner, Barry, Carrie, Timothy, Joshua, Catherine, Alexander and Allison, Abby, and Cameron, along with many extended family members and friends whose lives were brighter because of her presence.

Following her retirement, Gladys embraced her creative side through woodworking, painting, and entertaining family and friends. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and a talent for making them laugh. Her sense of humour was legendary, built equally on quick wit, sarcasm, and the ability to find something funny in almost any situation. Even in her final days, that mischievous spark never left her.

While we mourn her loss, we take comfort in knowing that Gladys is finally free from the chronic pain she endured for so long. Those who loved her can easily imagine her heavenly arrival: greeted by her parents, sister Catherine, nephew Nicolas Mariagliano, her dear friend Joe McDonald and a crowd of aunts and uncles. And after the hugs were over, we suspect her first order of business was finding Elvis, grabbing a rum and Coke, and settling in for a good story and a laugh.

Gladys taught us that life is meant to be enjoyed, that laughter helps us through difficult times, and that the best relationships are built on love, loyalty, and a healthy dose of sarcasm.

She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
