Obituary

We are saddened to announce the passing of Edwin (Ross) Etherington on March 10, 2026.

Ross moved on peacefully surrounded by the love and support of his family by his side. His memories will be cherished by his wife of 57 years, Sallyanne. He will be dearly missed by his children Chris (Lori) and Wendy (David), and his grandchildren Danial (Jazmin), Bradley (Emily), Mackenzie (Melissa), Justin (Kiki) and Josephine.

Ross grew up in the North Riverdale neighbouhood of Toronto, predeceased by his parents Frederick and Florence and his brother David.

As a child, he excelled in music, winning several piano competitions, and completing his Grade 8 piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Although he never played much as an adult, he did continue his musical interests as a member of the Barbershop Quartet in the 70’s.

His working career started as a clerk at a hardware store. He was given an opportunity to join the "Junior Forest Ranger" program where he spent 3 summers in various parts of Northern Ontario. He spent the rest of his working career at Bell Canada.

Ross was also a pilot. He obtained his private pilots license in the mid 1950's and flew recreationally until the birth of his son Chris.

The family cottage was his favorite place to spend the summers. He loved puttering around fixing (and occasionally breaking) things.

Above all, Ross cherished his family. He always supported his children, Chris and Wendy. No matter how hair-brained or absurd the ideas were (and there were many), he was there. He was there to celebrate our success, and there to pick us up after our failures. He was the voice that always had time on the other end of the phone. His grandchildren offered him endless hours of entertainment through the years with their stories of their shenanigans and mischief. There were no lines left uncrossed at our family dinners.

Our hearts are heavy with sadness, but we take comfort in the memories and the love that will live on in our hearts every day.

Give Heaven a little hell Dad!!!!
