It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edith Cupidio (née Meikle), who left us peacefully on April 17, 2026, at the age of 84. Surrounded by love, Edith spent her final days held close by family.Edith is survived by her children, Camilla and Christian (LeeAnn), her grandchildren, Lauryn (Brendan) and Sarah, and her step grandchildren, Nicole (Bryan), Megan and Braeden (Erin). She is predeceased by her parents, William and Marie, her siblings Norm (Lea) and Eula (John) and her son-in-law Dave.
Born in Woodstock, Edith lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and quiet strength. She dedicated her career to caring for others as a Nurse, attending nursing school in Stratford, then working first at Toronto East General Hospital (now Michael Garron), then at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, and eventually at Riverdale Hospital (now Bridgepoint) in Toronto. Her compassion, steady presence, and unwavering commitment to her patients touched countless lives over the years. While living in Montreal, she ran an in-home daycare and cared for many children over the years. Being the gold standard of a caregiver was her most precious gift to so many people, from newborns to seniors.Outside of her work, Edith was an avid reader, so much so that libraries could hardly keep enough books in stock for her, as she read an average of 7 books per week. She was also a real sports fan, especially tennis. One of her favourite memories was travelling with her children in 2021 to New York City for her 80th birthday to watch the US Open, a trip filled with excitement, laughter, and the shared love of the game.
A celebration of Edith’s life will be held on Sunday, May 3rd, from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the Carrigan Arms restaurant in Burlington, Ontario (2025 Upper Middle Road). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Carpenter Hospice in her memory. It is with great thanks that we give our utmost appreciation to the angels at Carpenter Hospice who provided her with a beautiful and peaceful environment for her final days.
