David McAllister Watson Obituary
September 26, 1940 - January 10, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of David “Scottie” McAllister Watson peacefully on January 10, 2026 at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington Ontario
David is predeceased by his father David Watson and mother Ina Watson (ne Connell). He will be deeply missed by his wife Kathleen Watson (ne Kelly), his daughter Alison Watson, his son Scott Watson (Kara Watson), granddaughter Kate Watson, sister Heather Wood (ne Watson) (Ron Wood), brothers Denis Watson, Robert Watson (Charlotte Watson) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
This picture was taken by the Kirkland Lake newspaper in 1958; the article showcases the concerns that derelicts were taking over because of beards in high schools. Well this derelict shaved, graduated high school with honours, ended up getting a BSc in Geophysics (2nd in class), got married, had two kids, became President of Questor Surveys (BP) at 37y.o, travelled on every continent, met Swedish royalty, walked on the Great Wall of China in 1977, had State dinner at the Malacanan Palace (Philippines) with P.E Trudeau and President Marcos, owned a Geophysical (Crone Geophysics) survey business, eventually retiring at 58y.o…not bad for a derelict from Kirkland Lake.
His work in the Geophysics and mining industries were respected around the world. He was much more than just his vocation. David, or “Scottie” as his childhood friends called him, was an environmentalist, an expert canoeist, travel enthusiast, volunteer and a champion of equality for ALL. He was a terrific dad and husband, teaching us that honesty, doing what’s right, empathy and generosity are the greatest attributes you can leave behind in this world.
His smile and kind heart will be truly missed. We hope wherever David is, there are big lakes with access to a cedar strip canoe. Keep paddling, Love you Pops.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date (Spring).
In lieu of flowers, if desired a donation can be made to Parkinson Canada to honour his loving wife Kath.
