Alice Simmons

July 31, 1945 — February 27, 2026

Alice Simmons passed away on February 27, 2026, surrounded by her husband Bill, daughter Christine, and her spouse George, son Terry and his wife Susie. Alice was brave and composed in her final days and was comforted by her family, friends, and faith. Her final words and thoughts were anchored in the countless fond memories spent with her friends and family over many years; she expressed her sincere gratitude for those close and meaningful relationships.

Alice is remembered for her boundless energy and vibrant spirit. At large friends and family gatherings, her boisterous conversation and laughter could be heard and her smile would carry across the room. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with those she loved.

Alice was born on a farm in Prince Edward Island and was blessed to be part of a large family. The farmhouse included her grandparents (“Hattie” and “Pop”), her parents (Earl and Ruby), and ten siblings: Ray, Steven, Phyllis, Keith, Clarence, Joyce, Nina, Johnny, Eric, and Nancy. At the age of 15, Alice moved to Toronto to live with her Aunt Joan. Alice baby-sat Joan’s children, worked part-time, and attended night school. Fast forward a few years, when she met former Canadian Armed Forces serviceman Bill, she said he somewhat resembled Elvis in his uniform (the young Elvis, not the 1970s bell-bottom Elvis). Alice and Bill’s love and happy marriage lasted for over 60 years.

Alice worked hard at home and in various factories to support her two children so that they had everything they needed (and many things they wanted). Most importantly, it was clear that Alice loved her children with all of her heart; it was a big and generous heart.

Any time Alice spent with a friend or family member was in her words: “a great time!” Whether it be shopping, bowling, dining out, going to the movies, church function, or talking on the phone she got her energy from conversation and fellowship. Alice enjoyed watching hockey and would regularly ask questions that underscored her hockey intelligence was greater than all of the Toronto Maple Leaf coaching staff combined. Her favourite hockey players were Bobby Clarke and Sidney Crosby. Alice thought horses were beautiful animals and she spoiled Christine’s cats with excessive quantities of treats. She enjoyed Christmas because of what it represented but also because she was guaranteed time with those she loved.

Alice did not want a visitation and she asked that we not hold a funeral service. Instead, we are inviting friends and family to share your condolences, photos, and stories in the online memory book.

Alice will be deeply missed, the room will be less bright, the conversation less lively but we are thankful and blessed to have shared our time with her. She wished that you would carry her energy, spirit, and love for one another forward.
