Aldo Manuti was born on May 16, 1933, in Matugglie, Italy. He died on Nov 20, 2,025 [Age 92]
He was the son of Pascuale Manuti and Rosa Mazzega. As a young child, he and his family migrated to Trieste, 70 kilometers from Matugglie, during the difficult times of World War II. Aldo's fondest childhood memories were of swimming with his friends in the Adriatic Sea off the beaches of Trieste. In 1956, at the age of 23, Aldo boarded a ship in the Port of Genoa bound for Australia in search of a better life. Due to the political conflict at the time, the ship was unable to pass through the Suez Strait, so it had to sail around the coast of Africa to reach Australia, making the journey much longer. Aldo worked in Australia on the construction of the railway for five years and then returned briefly to Trieste. A few months later, his beloved cousin Giuseppe Zippo invited him to live in New York for a few months. While there, Aldo found an opportunity in Canada, where he settled very well. Toronto was the city that welcomed him and where he felt at home. He worked for 30 years at Kodak, retired at 63, and died almost 30 years later in his apartment at Oakwood and St. Clair in Toronto, where he had lived for 55 years. Aldo Manuti was married to Rafaella, a fellow native of Trieste, and then to Margaret, with whom he lived for 35 years until her death. In 2010, he met Ernestina, with whom he shared 16 years. She was at his bedside and was very grateful for the good things Aldo did for her and her family. Aldo loved living in Toronto; he always enjoyed good restaurants and good food, especially Italian and Peruvian cuisine; he would take long walks through the downtown streets every day. He knew that area like the back of his hand. His athletic legs held up until the very end of his life. He visited several European countries, as well as Cuba, Venezuela, El Salvador, and especially Guatemala, where he lived for a couple of years. He had a very strong character; however, those who knew him will remember him as a good man, highly cultured, and with strong socialist leanings! May God rest in peace, Aldo Manuti. Until victory, always! We shall overcome!
Aldo Manuti's ashes were taken to his birthplace, Matugglie, and Trieste.
